On a long car ride last weekend, bobku7 described the blind vampire children from a book he’s reading for me to draw. As I was sketching one up at work today with a few minutes between projects, my officemate glanced over and stated simply, “You have issues.”
Fire Flower
- 2 oz. jalapeño vodka (home-infused to your desired level of spiciness)
- 1 oz. elderflower liqueur
- 4 oz. pineapple juice
- grenadine
Pour a small layer of grenadine (less than in that photo) into an old-fashioned glass and top with ice. Mix the vodka, liqueur, and pineapple juice in a cocktail shaker with ice and slowly pour over the ice in the glass to get the fiery gradation.
Verdict: I liked it a lot. Between the jalapeño vodka and elderflower/grenadine there’s a lot of leeway to adjust the balance of spicy and sweet to personal preference.
Today I picked my first lock. (Not this jerk yet— the most I can can seem to get is two pins set.) I’ll be looting caps and Nuka Cola from old safes in no time. Also, today was the first day in years I started in a “healthy weight range”. So goodnight to a day of little accomplishments. :]
Good night on eclipse day! My dad and I met for dinner and we both came out of our cars at the same time with rudimentary pinhole viewing devices. Great minds think alike! (though we had about as much luck as I look like I’m having in this photo from kindergarten. Was worth a try. :p)

I’m quite glad I made the last-minute call to catch the show by myself after original plans with the Glass Heart fell through. And after perusing the rest of the scheduled season, I’m excited for the next one! :D
I haven’t work with animated gifs since the functionality was integrated into Photoshop. I can’t recall the name of that side program you used to have to use, so how many years ago that was is beyond me… This scene needs immortality though:

After a less-than-clean breakup last night I’m still feeling like the world’s worst person. Things had to go that way, but it should’ve happened a lot earlier; I’m just always awful with that stuff… As stone-hearted as I am, I’m fairly sure I’d rather be dumped/rejected eight times than have to be on the other end once.
I’m glad it’s put the usual bad taste in my mouth about he idea of dating though, because after the last three guys (each an experiment and failure in their own special way) I don’t think I’d have any idea what to be looking for anymore. For now: peace.
My Poison Valentine (February)
- 2 oz. Effen cherry vodka
- 1 oz. sambuca
- 1 oz. fresh black cherry juice
- 1 oz. fresh plum juice
- Cherry-plum soda water
Mix alcohol and juices with ice and strain into a martini glass. Top with a splash of soda water.
Verdict: Meh. Kinda tasted like Good ‘N Plenty, but I think there’s something a little off-putting about raw cherry juice after all.
Gone Green (March)
- 2 oz. Effen cucumber vodka
- 1 oz. Midori melon liqueur
- The juice of one lime
- Several mint sprigs
- Lemon-lime soda
Muddle the mint and lime juice. Add the vodka, liqueur, and ice. Stir and top with lemon-lime soda to taste. Garnish with a cucumber slice.
Verdict: Not bad. Nice, bright flavors but maybe a little grassy/unusual.
Tricky Tangerine Gimlet (April)
- 1.5 oz. tangerine vodka
- 1.5 oz. sweetened lime juice
- The juice of one tangerine
- Miracle fruit tablet
Mix the ingredients and serve over ice. Drink under the effects of the miracle fruit to shift the flavor profile.
Verdict: Pretty good, though definitely super-sweet after the miracle fruit. Probably better without, but that’s the gimmick!
